Nicknamed "the Jerusalem of Europe", Sarajevo has one of the most interesting urban histories on the continent. For over 400 years, mosques, synagogues, Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches stand next to each other, in a symbolic coexistence - one that has not always been harmonious. Sarajevo was the crucible of a turbulent history, with clashes between civilizations, but nowadays the capital has healed from the wounds of conflicts that have shaken former Yugoslavia. Contemporary city of peace, tolerance, integration and multiculturalism, it has assimilated its inheritances so Bosnian, Croats and Serbs, are all friendly and hospitable. And on top of that it has the advantage of being the capital in the mountains; if you want to ski, you can just leave early from work and do a lap on the Olympic slope!
